BSE 104: Food Systems & Agricultural Resilience
A Common Core course (prerequisites: BSE 100, Source Discipline; and BSE 102, Household Readiness). In a Black Sky Event, water fails first — and water is already handled in the Individual and Household courses. This course begins where that leaves off, with the system that fails next: food. You will learn the three-leg food assessment — the commercial supply chain, local agriculture within roughly thirty miles, and aquatic/alternative protein — and the transition from procurement dependency toward indigenous production. You will produce a scoped single-foodshed exemplar: a three-leg assessment, a thirty-mile inventory, and a food carrying-capacity estimate that feeds the Diamond-N baseline. Passing score: 80%. Tone: pragmatic and sourced, not alarmist.
