Microgrids

Mission Statement

To accelerate the development and deployment of resilient microgrids across the United States by advancing essential standards, testing, and supply chains. Facilitate the use of microgrids as the foundation for sustainable communities and fortified critical infrastructure.

Goals:

  • Reference Architecture: Create a reusable reference architecture that facilitates the adoption of resilient microgrid design and implementation.
  • Engagement & Advocacy: Collaborate with stakeholders to educate and raise awareness about the role of microgrids in community resilience, and advocate for strategies to mitigate related risks and threats.
  • Innovation & Technology: Identify and assess new, disruptive technologies and methodologies that can significantly improve the resilience and security of the nation’s microgrid infrastructure.
  • Risk & Scenario Analysis: Provide assessments of current and emerging threats, including scenarios involving long-term microgrid disruption and the cascading impacts on the essential workforce and community operations.
  • Advancement & Fortification: Advance the sustainability and resilience of microgrids so they effectively enhance local communities and are  fortified to withstand significant existential threats.
  • Performance  Measurement: Develop metrics and methodologies to quantify and compare the resilience and performance benefits of microgrids relative to conventional, non-resilient electrical infrastructure.
